①作品を一週間乾燥させて電気窯で窯詰めをしました。この後、9時間かけて800℃まで焼きます。これを『素焼き（すやき）』といいます。

　②その後、2日間かけて自然に窯を冷やします。100℃まで電気窯が冷めたらいよいよ窯出しです。どのタヌキも割れることなくうまく焼けました！

All of the tanukis turned out well without cracking!

　⓷素焼きができたら、紙やすりでタヌキのざらつきを磨いて手触りをよくします。パーツが外れないように丁寧に時間をかけて仕上げます。
【英文】Once these unglazed pieces were done, we used sandpaper to polish the rough edges of the tanukis to improve their texture. We took our time to finish them carefully so that no part would come off.

　④磨き終えたら、いよいよ『釉薬（ゆうやく）』をつけていきます。つまり、色をつけていく工程です。800℃で素焼きした理由は、釉薬がしっかりとつきやすくなるからです。
【英文】After polishing was complete, it was time to apply the "yuyaku" (glaze). In other words, this is the process of adding color.
The reason we fire unglazed potteries at 800℃ is to make it easier for the glaze to adhere firmly.


　

　⑤スプレーガンで全体の色をつけていきます。イメージ通りの色になるように、濃淡をつけるのは技術が必要です
【英文】We used spray guns to apply the overall color. We need skill to apply the shading so that the color is exactly as imagined.

　⑥細かい部分は筆で塗っていきます。釉薬は焼くまで色がはっきりとわかりません。間違えないように生徒たちは慎重に塗ってくれました。
【英文】We used brushes to paint the details. We never clearly know the color of the glaze until it is fired. We painted carefully so as not to make any mistakes.

　⑦⑧釉薬がすべてつけられました！もう一度、電気窯に窯詰めします。今度は15時間かけて1240℃まで焼きます。これを『本焼き(ほんやき)』といいます。
【英文】All the glaze was on! Once again, the pieces were packed in an electric kiln. This time, they were fired for 15 hours to a temperature of 1,240℃. This is called "honyaki" (main firing).

　⑨その後、3日間かけて自然に窯を冷やします。ついに窯出しです。ユニークなタヌキたちが顔を出しました。
【英文】We let the kiln cool down naturally over a period of three days.Finally, the kiln was unloaded and our unique tanukis emerged.

　⑩今回生徒たちはタヌキをどのように制作するのか相談、協力して完成させることができました。貴重な高校生活の思い出となりました。
